More on Burnaby
Burnaby was named after explorer Robert Burnaby, who surveyed the area in 1859. Its proximity to Vancouver and New Westminster helped fuel its growth in its early decades. It originally served as farm country serving the nearby cities. Today it has developed into an urban area. It has the largest shopping mall in British Columbia, the Metropolis at Metrotown.
Being close to Vancouver, Burnaby is served by two Skytrain lines. The Expo line connects it with Vancouver as well as with New Westminster and Surrey while the Millennium line connects it to downtown Vancouver and New Westminster.
